Methionine is an essential amino acid that is not synthesised by the body and so must be obtained from food. It is one of the sulphur-containing amino acids and is important for many functions of the body.

The sulphur contained within methionine improves the tone and pliability of the skin, protects the cells from airborne pollutants and slows down the ageing process in the cells. It also helps to condition the hair and strengthens the nails.

Methionine is involved with the production of protein in the body and is essential for the bioavailability, absorption and transportation of selenium and zinc.
